About this Presenter

Michael is a Principal of Offermans. Admitted in 1999, Michael practised in commercial law before becoming an insolvency practitioner. In addition to maintaining his practising certificate as a solicitor, Michael is a Liquidator and Bankruptcy Trustee.

Adding to the strength and integrity of the legal and insolvency professions has been an important focus for Michael throughout his career. Prior to being elected as Deputy President of the Queensland Law Society (QLS), he served three terms as a member of the QLS Council. In his role as a Councillor he has been a member of the QLS Finance & Risk Committee, QLS’ Council of Management, Professional Conduct Committee and the QLS Executive.

Michael is a member of the Law Council of Australia’s Insolvency & Reconstruction Committee (Qld Div.) and is Deputy Chair of the Qld State Committee of Australian Reconstruction, Insolvency and Turnaround Association (ARITA). In 2021, Michael was appointed to the National Board of ARITA.

Michael believes that regional Queenslanders are ideally placed to capitalise upon government recognition of the potential in developing Northern Australia. He is an advocate for the export of professional services from the regions and strongly believes in the strategic utilisation of the local knowledge found in regional firms leveraged with the specialisation available in metropolitan practices. He passionately believes in the potential for regional and metropolitan firms working together, to unlock value from the new services frontier.
