Head of Legal, Coal, Pacific National and President, ACC Australia
Karen is a senior lawyer who has spent much of her career working in-house. Karen is currently Head of Legal – Coal at the leading rail freight provider in Australia, Pacific National. Karen was also elected as National President of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Australia in November 2017 and is the Chair of the Board.
Before joining Pacific National, Karen worked in various roles at an ASX Listed company – from legal counsel to policy advisor, contract governance manager to governance lead on a major transformation project. During this time, she gained extensive experience managing legal risk, negotiating and communicating with customers and executive stakeholders, and translating regulatory and contractual requirements into business-friendly process and systems.
Prior to working in-house Karen practiced at a mid-tier law firm in Brisbane for a number of years.
In her role as ACC Australia President, Karen is committed to ensuring that ACC Australia has the tools, services, connections and education offerings members require to assist their organisations to succeed in transforming their businesses in the digital age.
Karen is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the workplace and promotes flexible working arrangements for all. Her passion in life is her two young children, Nathaniel who is 6 and Aiden who is 3. Karen enjoys spending time with her family and travelling.
